Family Holiday#5: Kopi-Luwak Session at Bangli
Short Talk: I travelled approximately 200km away from home to a small town in Down South yesterday. I started my first day at work today. It is a BIG mistake, I’m telling you/ I thought I was going on healthy diet, I was going on ’save-my-liver’ epic… I clearly step into a wrong place. Don’t get me wrong. The people are very nice to me, I feel very loved
. The down side it, they are not going to help me much with my liver
Is this a good thing or bad thing?
Back to my travel blog.
It was our last day of travelling - I was extremely excited.
Morning sesson: KOPI LUWAK appreciation session at Bangli!!! yeeeeee ha!
I’ve tried KOPI LUWAK a few months in Perth, it was awesome!!!
I don’t think I say this enough: KOPI LUWAK IS FREAKING AWESOME!
I told Yande I must try this in Bali itself - right from the farm
And here we went, at Bangli.
Yande showed me the Civets, aka the cats.
The local call them ‘musang’
This is the black civet. I was informed that black civets give more aroma to the berries,
where as the white civet is pretty much ‘odourless’
Pre-roasted beans, ie they were collected and washed from the cat poo ![]()
I swear to Buddha, the aroma of the coffee bean is awesome! and no where I could smell cat poo!!!
Oh! This is me, pretending to roast the coffee bean.
(right arm on the chest to cover up my cleavage, obviously)
These are the roasted coffee. I see the cat-poo beans like gold, and I had the urge to steal bring them home. All of them!!!
Hello everyone! This is our lovely toursit guide, Yande.
Hi Yande, this is everyone. ^^
You may wish to check out Yande’s website too. He is awesome!
I got mum to do the ‘touristy’ pose for me
Hi everyone, say HI to mum!
Mum was looking very very happy as she had no clue what sort of coffee beans she was grinding
I, on the other hand, looking shy. Very shy *cough*
Yes - I am very shy one, okay? *blimey!!*
After the roasting and grinding.. Ta dah!! This the end product!
Kopi luwak was served. I got dad and Yande to take a truck load of photos here. I didn’t want to miss out the one of the best coffee moments!
I drank at least 2 cups of Kopi Luwak at that time because
1. It tastes very nice!
2. I KNOW how much it cost per cup in Perth!!! yay to my ‘kia-suism’ competitive nature
p/s: why at least 2 cups? ‘cos I got them to serve mum and nan the coffee too, and only tell them what they were going to drink. I knew mum has no gut
hence I could have her coffee. *strategy*
Ah! So happy! double YAY!
At the end, I bought some Kopi Luwak back to Perth. I somehow must get Kian to drink Kopi Luwak with me.
I bought the coffee powder at first, and I was told later the coffee beans were available too!
Right at that moment, I thought of Michael from Cafe Grendel who is very passionate about coffee and the Autism Association of Western Australia. Hence, my donation to them, hopefully through Michael’s passion, I can spread the caffeine love to Perth coffee lovers too!
Yay for Kopi Luwak!!! *mwah*
you look pretty in all the pics!
Hi Di, awww.. Thanks! Im so flattered. No photoshops! and I’m very proud!
that’s awesome! btw, i was reading the malaysian papers the other day and there was an article about monkey poo coffee. are you game for drinking monkey poo?
i guess no where in perth is serving that yet :p
Hey Angie, no, Perth doesn’t do monkey poo coffee. If they do, I ALL up for it!!
Yet, they do have money coffee thou. Check this out: http://fioricoffee.com/2009/08/the-monkey-coffee-has-arrived-and-all-for-a-good-cause/
=) We are so going!!! woohoo! ^^
Ewwww u is evil!!! kian run for your life!!!
Please, he very sayang me one, okay?
How much cheaper (or more expensive) is it in Bali compared to Perth?
Now you got me into the Math.. I’m not sure how much cheaper compared to Perth. Over here, they sell by cup, they don’t sell the powder or the coffee beans
I cost me about AUD15 for a bag of 200g-beans
*dirt cheap right?, comparing to one cup of coffee which cost me AUD38!!!*
Ah, so this is the one you told me about. Nice place, gotta go to Bali again one of these days.
Yeah! The coffee is awesome! But the one in the original packaging is better - i believe those they offered had been oxidised abit more. That bag of bean has gone to Michael - we are using that for fund raising with Fiori in December! Im all excited!
Wait! We are doing Monkey Coffee in November first. Yay!!!! ^^
Now, Kopi luwak on the other hand, did not do much to me.
by chance you already build up the caffeine tolerance? ^^
I believe they don’t need 200g of beans for a cup, so yeah, it’s dirt cheap over there.
The coffee bean was donated to Autism Society of Western Australia. Fiori Coffee is throwing a charity event on December and I can’t wait!
I just opened up a Kopi Luwak blend which I forgot I’ve bought at the airport (USD15/100g instead of the pure luwak at usd60/100g)last night.
Awesome, and upon grinding the beans in a burr grinder, the aroma filled the room and the coffee was the greatest I’ve ever had. I do believe bean work a lot better I prefer coarser fine grind than super fine powder that leaves a muddy after taste.
I was going to get extra beans, but I realise we don’t have grinder at home =(
Nevermind, always next time
The beans were donated to Austism Association of WA. We are running a charity out of it! I am all excited! YAY!
Is it ok to bring back thorugh customs? I heading over to Bali next week?
I hope everyone thinks this coffee is the best because it is. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3u65Uat9Fc
