Mulu Trip : Gunung Mulu National Park

After a swim, we got ready for lunch. We were informed to wait at the lobby as there would be people who will pick us up.
Curious. Very curious. I looked around - “where’s the car?”
Okay, there was no car to fetch us. It was this: long boat (!) 
After lunch, we were transported (in a 4WD) to the Gunung Mulu National Park.
Our very first day to Lang’s Cave and Deer Cave, Mulu
Ta-Dah!!
“Hey Ma! Look! The two bloody tourists!” 
Ladies and Gentlemen, may I introduce, our tourguide of the rest of the trip: Entily
Entily is awesome. He is very good at explaining all the bits and pieces in the jungle and he looked after everyone as well.
We were told the walk to the Caves would take about 2-3 hours or so if we walked slowly.
“WHAT?” I was thinking “THREE-hours walk? He must be kidding me”
Turn out, it wasn’t that bad at all. I must say the entire journey was very pleasant indeed because it was MOSQUITO-FREE jungle. [explain later]
As we walked along the trekking path, Entily pointed out a few species of caterpillars.
“Don’t touch this! You get very itchy hand”
I was amazed how pretty they are. Never in my entire life I’ve seen pretty caterpillars
Not to mention love-making centipedes! Look! They are kissing! How sweet is that!
I wasn’t allow to say sex-making centipedes at that time as there was a very young child in our tour
I did say the walk was pleasant, but I didn’t say how I was nearly killed by the humidity in Mulu.
The hot sweaty weather was challenging as it had rained the day earlier.
Half way through, Entily pointed out to us.. This is some kind of river blah blah blah …..
I wasn’t paying much attention. All I knew was: OH! Something touristy important! Take picture!!
Hence the photo explains why everything look abit ‘off’ here.
Semi-dehyration + maximum humidity + a cheesie tourist smile = fml
After 1 hour walk, here we are:

We took a short break at the Tourist Kiosk/Bat Observatory Deck.

After Lang’s Cave, we were heading to the much participated Deer Cave - World (second) Biggest Cave. Dated by April 2009. =.=!!!
TMD. A bigger cave was found 2 weeks earlier. Son Doong Cave in Vietnam is now pronouced world biggest cave. Can’t they make the announcement after I got back from my trip? potong steam. Anyway ,good thing is that its not accessible by tourists.
I shared some of my Caving experience in South West Australia with Entily, like how they have plenty of imaginations.
Entily said,”Oh! We Malaysia also got!” ^^

After the tour in those Caves, headed back to the Bat Observatory Deck.
I must confess:
Point one: bats remind me of Christian Bale - Bruce Wayne who drives a Lamborghini in The Batman
Point two: can we have bats for supper?
Hehehe.. what a “yummie” confession I had
I didn’t quite anticipate the whole bat watching thingy - “bats only what? what’s the biggie, ney?”
Kian whispered in my ear “wait till you see those bats that fly out from the cave.”
We waited for awhile. Those experienced tourguides told us, those bats ’should’ be out because it was a beautiful day.
“oh kay… still don’t quite get it.” me thinking.
Other tourguide added, you all should be very lucky if you get to see those bats because it was raining the day before.
“oh kay lah. whatever. it better be good.” me thinking
Plenty of tourists, mainly from oversea too.

One moment, someone shouted: LOOK! The bats are out!!!!

There you go! A few millions/billions of bats flying out from the cave. It certainly formed a magnificient view.
It was absolutely something that I never seen before in my life!!
I can finally understand why.
p/s: Bats survive on mosquitoes. Hence, the entire jungle was pretty much mozzie-free due to the large amount of bats eating them! cool eh?
OMG! OMG! This is so beautiful. The whole thing! The ulat bulu, the bats, the girl, the lengchai! Hey, I thought Mulu Cave have to take a mini kapal terbang?

Did you notice the bats have a flight pattern and each family has their own unique routine ? Never been to Mulu myself but that’s what my sister told me…dunno bluff one or not.
Yes, they do.
Most of the fly out in spiral shape.. and form slighty different routine. Pretty amazing.
They have to stick in their group, those who left the group will get eaten by the hawk(s) easily.

The size of the cave is H.U.G.E! simply breathtaking!
We were told not to talk so much - clap our mouth as much as we can to prevent bat poo flying in to our mouth
