Japanses Buffet Dinner

It was sometimes ago, I found this restaurant from a blog review.
I personally not a very huge fan of buffet, I believe a tasteful dinner comes from succulent flavour, not the quantity itself.

One of the weeknights, we decided to head down to Shimizu Grand at Floreat Forum.

Some foodie’ photos first, ya?

Round ONE:
(A little bit of everything to try first)

Clock wise:

  • salmon sushi — exactly the one I’ve made at home.
  • Una sushi — disappointingly dry
  • jellyfish sald — not something very fantastic
  • spring roll — judging by its colour, you can tell they are severely underfried. pretty tasteless.
  • squid mayo salad(?) — pretty awesome
  • gyoza - the skin/wrapping tasted like cardboard ;pretty much like leftover gyoza being steamed again, again and again. nuff.
  • raw tuna: (hiding behind the Chiwan Mushi): hmmm…
  • Chiwan mushi: pretty fantastic.

Round TWO:
clock wise:
raw salmon: yes.. you can pretty much tell that there isn’t much awesomeness served on the table.
pickle: commercially available everywhere, not something that will amaze you.
random salad 1: I paid 38 bucks, I must at least try that.. for a tiny bit
random salad 2: comment same as above
raw beef: 2-3 slices are the max, but I just had one.

The only reason I like about the food is raw salmon. If you are salmon person, you might as well buy a chunk from Coles, and slice it off yourself at home.

I’ve never been a fan of jellyfish, but ever since I got stung by stingers, I am very, very, very determined to eat jellyfish whenever I go for Japanese. Damn you, jellyfish! The rash flared up few days ago.. and they are still fairly reddish and itchy.

Tempura: poorly done.

Beef: hard as rock. The slice garlic was overfried, leaving a after pungent bitter taste.

Squid balls: where is the squid? yep! very classic! they only give you a tiny tiny bit of squid, whereas the flour was obviously overpowering.

Japaneses noodle: I felt like they got this straight from the packaging. The texture of noodle is smooth; the brooth.. ordinary.

I personally think the owner put too much effort into the restaurant design. The ambient was good. Perfect for dating, group meeting.
But the owner musta forget to apply some passion, energy and effort into the food.
The hot food was very very disappointed too. They look more than the less like those cheapo Chinese buffet. and again, pretty tastleless.

And speaking of variation, I can understand there were only 2 choices of cakes.. but again, back to hot food. G! You don’t expect the amount of money you paid for for this kind of buffet.

So, I decided to come out with some top tips.
1. NO! You don’t pay 35. You will pay 38 bucks now. Price has gone up, just like the fuel. bloody hell.
2. NO! You don’t get their iconic chopsticks either.
3. NO! absolutely not worthy.
4. NO! You won’t even think of going there.for once.

p/s: despite the food wasn’t that great, I still had a lovely night out with Kian. At the end, Kian made the night pretty much, very tasteful. ;)

Shame about the quality, even if the pictures look so good!! You looked like you were being attacked by a martian jellyfish too..

the sushis were tasteless, the hot food was pretty bad - fried chicken were dried n tasteless so were the teriyaki chicken.
When it was first opened, u can almost request just prawn tempuras with no qns ask. Now, they pretend they dont understand you. Unless you are Caucasian, the owners are not that friendly.

arrgh, I feel so guilty, sorry sorry! I swear it was good the first time I went, but after the second time, I also felt that the quality of food had slipped and we were terribly thirsty after the buffet. Did you feel the same?

    Gomen!

It must be your professional photography skill. Because if you didn’t comment on how bad certain food were, I’d imagine it were all very nice. :D

Rodney: which restaurant in Northbridge la? they might as well shut the business. meng-sia-sui-kan sahaja.

LB: that was just a vegetarian jelly fish.. if you like to put it in that way. HAHA!

mashi: it is not hard to prentend like a aussie, all u need to do is, open mouth, close mouth: Good day MATE! hey MATE.. :)
I hate ppl being discriminative towards their own race!
honestly, i hardly try any their hot food. look like some cheapo all-you-can it in Old Shanghai. =.=”’

Di: aiyah..not your fault lah. they are other victoms out there too! I washed most of the food down with sake.. see! that’s how bad it was. =P
Like Rodney said, Jaw’s Sushi might be better. I personally think we dont need to pay 38 bucks for that crap. Just go to Hayashi at Applecross, they do wonderful Japanese there.

Day-Dreamer: pai seh.. you kena cheated by my photos.. I have big head now.. so happy! the pohotos were taken by my new camera. happy!

I agree with Fish Fish. I like salmon but the most interesting is the last pic. Although I can’t see Cynthia’s face clearly but I dare say Cynthia is one of them with a nice cleavage.
